Case Studies
Three pieces, three different situations.
A vintage Seiko 5 — twenty years without attention
The situation
The watch had been running, but gaining around four minutes per day — acceptable initially, but worsening over time. The owner hadn't serviced it since receiving it as a gift in the early 2000s.
The work
Full movement disassembly, cleaning, and re-oiling. Regulation across six positions on the timing machine. Worn mainspring identified and replaced. Casebook photographed before and after.
The result
Regulated to +4 seconds per day across positions. Movement now running within normal parameters for the calibre. Service completed in three weeks; record issued with timing machine printout included.

A Citizen dial — faded, not failed
The situation
The owner's everyday watch — a 1990s Citizen automatic — had a dial that had yellowed and was no longer easy to read in low light. The hands had dulled noticeably but the movement was running well.
The work
Pre-work consultation to agree approach. Dial surface cleaned under magnification; no refinishing applied to the printed elements. Hands cleaned and their brushed finish carefully refreshed. No lacquer applied.
The result
Legibility restored. Dial retains its aged character while being clearly readable. Owner specifically noted that the watch still looks like itself — not like a modern re-edition. Completed in six working days.

A Casio G-Shock — stopped after flooding
The situation
Water had entered during heavy rain. The display was blank. The owner wanted to know if repair was worthwhile before committing to the cost of assessment — a question we're always happy to answer first.
The work
Initial assessment revealed corrosion on the battery contacts and module. Contacts cleaned, new cell fitted, module tested. Gaskets replaced throughout. Pressure test confirmed restored water resistance.
The result
Watch fully functional, display operating correctly, water resistance confirmed at the original specification. A simpler outcome than the owner had feared — and a cost well within the Quartz Care service range.
